Teacher at Bryan Station Middle a Kids’ Champion

Teacher at Bryan Station Middle a Kids’ Champion

Fayette County Public Schools has chosen Laura Duffy, an AVID teacher at Bryan Station Middle School, as the Kids’ Champion for January 2026. Each month, our district recognizes an outstanding member of Team FCPS who makes a real difference in students’ lives. Duffy displays exceptional dedication to her students and embodies these key champion characteristics: innovation, advocacy, empathy, knowledge, and a positive attitude.

Excerpts from the eighth grader who nominated Duffy:

“This teacher always finds a way to make each lesson engaging, and when the students don't like a topic that they are learning, she always tries to come up with a new idea to make the lesson more understandable for us, and she will always teach us a life lesson.

“If anyone is in a bad mood or comes in and just isn't their normal self, she will always stop or pull that student to the side to ask if they are doing OK or if there is anything that she can do to help us. She will always find a way to make the outcome of your situation better.

“Having a teacher like this is really life-changing. Every day I'm thankful because when school started to feel like a place I had to survive, she was there to change it for me. She helped me start liking and enjoying school again, and she has even helped me make friends!”

Superintendent Demetrus Liggins surprised Duffy this week at school with the Kids’ Champion Award, sponsored by Forcht Bank. The Fayette County Board of Education will also salute her  at their Jan. 26 action meeting.

If you know a Kids’ Champion who advocates for students and fosters a positive environment where all can thrive, you can recommend them for this districtwide recognition!
